Costa Rica Entertainment – The premiere, on September 15, of “El sitio de las abras” will bring us 37 artists singing and dancing in honor of the figure of the peasant. It’s based on a novel by Fabián Dobles and is one of the most ambitious productions seen at the National Theater this year.
Amadeo Cordero and Isabel Guzmán star in the great production. The opening is moving. In it you hear a solo sharp violin and see smoke then a myriad of children and adults moving as eternal migrants seeking a home.
It’s been prepared over the last semester and premiers in the framework of the patriotic festivities. It tells of a distant era on which we built our country. It speaks of community over land possession as well as barriers created in society.
The work shows peasants not as simple laborers or exploited workers rather as ancestors, representations of a common lineage for all who live in Costa Rica today. It shows them in a positive light as very capable of surviving in their environment and making the most of the nature around them.
