The Universidad de Iberoamérica, Unibe, has proposed becoming the second private university to train specialists in CCSS hospitals. The Universidad de Ciencias Médicas, Ucimed, was the first to reach such an agreement, two years ago.
The Board of Directors of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund, CCSS, is considering the idea, according to the agenda from the January 9th session. The press office of the CCSS will not give more details until an agreement is made.
The school would like to start with training Internal Medicine and Gynecology and Obstetrics. The approval process is before the Council. The agreement with Ucimed came after over ten years of legal actions.
The opportunity to study postgraduate medical specialties at private universities would be beneficial because there has been a lack of medical specialists declared in seven areas. The biggest deficits are in Anesthesiology, Orthopedics, Radiology, and Gyneco obstetrics.
