Costa Rica Healthcare – The Costa Rican Social Security Fund is to open 50 new Ebais’ this year.
These Basic Health Care Comprehensive Teams are the gateway to the health system as the first level of care.
Typically, after 3 or 4 pm and on weekends Ebais’ are closed and people needing basic care must go to an emergency room, stressing the hospital systems meant for more serious concerns.
The new Ebais’ will serve patients until 9 pm and on Saturday mornings as well as during weekdays.
The 50 new centers that will open this year will require 180 additional staff and will serve 250,000 residents in areas including Perez Zeledon, Heredia, Puntarenas, Alajuela and Guanacaste.
The investment has already been approved by the Board of Directors of the Fund in order to strengthen the first level of care and close gaps that have been pending since the 1990s.
