Costa Rica News – A smart machine is soon to verify the face and fingerprints of ticos entering the country by airport.
Migration says this technology is to improve security and speed getting through the air terminal.
The traveler will have to enter a cubicle with a camera, where the machine seeks to match the traveler to the passport. This takes only 30 seconds and only involves a Migration officer if the machine does not recognize a match.
Until now, passengers had to stand in long lines waiting for an officer to verify each identity. The e-Gate system will make the process more convenient and secure.
For additional security, in four years, chips will be installed in passports to avoid falsifications.
These changes will help Costa Rica comply with recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization, which asks to facilitate the passage of passengers in a competitive manner.
