Costa Rica Entertainment News – Saturday and Sunday nights will give anyone in the San Jose area a chance to enjoy Costa Rican music, dance and theater. The National Theatre, in the country’s capital, will host events during the month of June at very accessible prices.
Shows will begin at 8pm and provide a chance to see some of the country’s best artists.
The first event, on June 7th and 8th, is a choreographed presentation called El Otro Cuerpo, or The Other Body. The group Los que Somos will showcase ideas about body image and stereotypes through interpretive dance. Gustavo Vargas created the piece and until now it has only been shown in a small local theater in Montes de Oca.
Staff from the National Theatre including the cultural promotion department, the theatre director and the technical director made up the committee that chose the participants. Out of 22 contenders, only a few were chosen for their artistic ability, diversity of mediums and availability in the month of June.
The theatre invested over $25,000 of internal funds for this project. The money will go to hand printing programs for the events, using the performance hall and giving the artists the chance to practice beforehand. The last date to enjoy the creative productions is June 22nd.
