Cinemas will not reopen on May 1, as was previously announced. The Government would allow them to open this day but only following a design of sanitary protocols being approved by the Ministry of Health.
The details of such a plan take more time to put together. All theaters will have the same plan and will open at the same time. Once the plan is approved by authorities, then staff must be trained in how to implement it.
Upon reopening and through May 15, the cinemas will have permission to operate from 5am to 7pm with only 25% of normal capacity. While it’s not ideal for the businesses to run at 25% or for clients to go to the movies in the daytime, it’s a start.
The chamber of Cinematographic Exhibitors and Distributors of Costa Rica sees that the Government is showing trust in them to keep staff and clients safe and they take that responsibility seriously.
