Costa Rica News – Wine is leading the growth of liquor consumption in Costa Rica.
Data also shows that there was a strong increase in its sales value. Wine stands out as the form of alcohol that presented the highest growth in its sales from 2011 to 2016.
According to Euromonitor International, the sale of retail wine increased by 37.1% over that period. This has surpassed the success of cocktails and beer.
At the end of 2016, 8.2 million liters of wine had been sold in Costa Rica. This is worth $148.2 million. The projection is that this figure will increase to 11.6 million liters by 2021. That will represent sales of $209.3 million in Costa Rica.
Ticos are increasingly willing and wanting to try new wine varieties. The making of Sangria has also become popular.
Red wine accounts for about 80% of the wine sales in the country.
