I have been to the Mojave Desert and cruised around Route 66 one time during my life time with an Army buddy out of Fort Huachuca, Arizona. We didn’t encounter any ghosts, but we enjoyed the thrill of looking at areas that had historical significance. Our travels during this period of time took us from the Mojave Desert to our final destination Tombstone, Arizona and finally back to Fort Huachuca, Arizona. Before I talk about the Mojave Desert Sand Storm Specter, let’s take a look at the Mojave Desert.
The Mojave Desert is just that, a desert. It is the driest desert in North America. The location is Southeastern California and Southern Nevada. It even extends into Utah and Arizona. When visiting you will find many Joshua trees that are native to the Mojave Desert. This desert is sparsely populated and surrounding areas of population include San Bernardino, Las Vegas, Lancaster, Palmdale, Victorville, and St. George.
The Mojave Desert is bordered by the Great Basin Desert to its North and the Sonoran Desert to its South and East. Nearby mountain ranges are Tehachapi Mountains, San Gabriel Mountains and San Bernardino Mountains.
There are many ghost tales that come out of the Mojave Desert. I will mention only a couple before talking about the Mojave Desert Sand Storm Specter.
7 Foot Tall Deer Ghost
One of the strangest ghost stories is about a 7 foot high deer that is spotted time after time by hunters in the Kelso Valley area. This giant stag makes no sound and leaves no footprints. One hunter who only wants to be identified as Bubba, says he encountered the 7 foot high deer and it looked at him. He set his sights on the deer and when looking through his scope, the deer was not there. He shook his head in disbelief, looked away from the scope and the deer was there, looking at him. He looked through the scope again and the deer wasn’t there. He looked away from the scope and the deer vanished for good. About 15 minutes later, he saw a mother skunk with 4 baby skunks following her. The skunks also vanished in thin air! Bubba says that he has talked with other hunters that have came across vanishing animals in the same area. Bubba thinks there are strange occurrences in this area because it may be an area that harbors a leyline. Here is my assessment: “Bubba may be right, but what I like about this story is that it shows that all animals have souls.”

MOJAVE DESERT SAND STORM SPECTER
There are stories that a cowboy looking ghost will come around when the dust gets kicked up in the air. September 19, 2002: Darren Westlaw, a hunter says that he saw 3 dust devils waltzing through the desert. Darren found the dust devils entertaining and sat for a spell looking at them. When the dust devils finally dissipated, a wave of sand started heading his way. The wave of sand looked like a sand storm. From the sand storm a nightmarish cowboy looking guy stepped out of the sand storm and proceeded to choke Darren. The choking lasted for a few seconds, but seemed like an eternity to Darren. When the cowboy ghost was gone, Darren found himself on the ground, holding his throat and heavily coughing.
Another hunter who does not want to be identified says that he encountered the specter after a small dust storm. This happened on August 11, 1998. The hunter says he wore a cowboy hat and his face was hideous. The ghostly cowboy placed his hands on his shoulder and the hunter felt a tingling sensation throughout his body. When the ghostly encounter was gone and everything was back to normal, the hunter felt weak. He felt like his energy was completely depleted, drained. The hunter one week after the encounter, still felt weak and decided to go see a doctor. The doctor diagnosed the hunter with lymphoma – 4th stage. The hunter feels he was cursed when he encountered the Mojave Desert Sand Storm Specter. Added Note:
After extensive chemotherapy, the hunter survived his cancer ordeal. The hunter says he will NEVER hunt in the Mojave Desert again.
If you ever visit the Mojave Desert and you see a sand storm coming, please RUN!! If the Mojave Desert Sand Storm Specter is real, this is one ghost you do not want to encounter. No one knows where this ghost came from or who this ghost once was as a person. All everyone knows is that this ghost is evil and may have came from the deepest depths of Hell.
