A Victory at Home
MartínSon clinched the first position at the inaugural Costa Rica National Song Festival, held at the prestigious National Children’s Museum. Growing up in San Ramón, a place reverently referred to as the birthplace of poets in Costa Rica, it’s evident that music and poetry run through his veins.
Blending Cultures: Uruguay Meets Costa Rica
Intricately influenced by the Uruguayan culture he grew up with, MartínSon had the ingenious idea to fuse the lyrics and sounds of Uruguay with those of the Costa Rican Caribbean. His award-winning song is a harmonious blend of milongón, candombe, and the Uruguayan murga. He also infuses it with the distinctive notes of Cuban son and Caribbean rhythms. The artist himself described it as a “very round, very complete song.”
From Streets to Global Stages
MartínSon’s talent hasn’t just been recognized in Costa Rica. He has mesmerized audiences on streets and renowned stages alike in countries like Panama and across Europe. And the journey continues. As the year concludes, fans will have the chance to witness him perform at the Punta del Este Song Festival in Uruguay. Missed the festival in Costa Rica? Tune into Channel 36 at 7pm on August 26th for a re-broadcast.
Legacy Award: A Testament to Timeless Music
