Luis Fernando Suárez led Honduras in Brazil 2014 and has been on the radar ever since. His most recent position was with Atlético Bucaramanga, a team based in Bucaramanga, Colombia.
Costa Rica has had an eye on the Colombian strategist and called an extraordinary session of the Executive Committee. On Saturday, the result was confirmed: It was he who Fedefútbol wanted and needed.
There was just one issue, Costa Rica was unable to assume the payment for his departure from the Colombian team, which didn’t want to lose him. Costa Rica made clear that he would have to get his freedom from that contract in order for it to be possible to lead Costa Rica.
Suárez brings extensive experience. He was with Germany in the 2006 World Cup and with Honduras for the 2012 Olympic Games. He’ll bring Costa Rica to the Gold Cup, World Cup, and Qatar 2022.
