It is Green Season in Costa Rica, my favorite time of the year, when the rainforests and jungles are lush and fragrant due to more frequent rain showers in the late afternoon and evenings. Green Season, roughly mid April to mid December , is a time when many local business owners take their vacations, plan renovations and surf the best waves of the year. Lucky tourists who are able to travel during these off season months enjoy huge discounts, have their choice of luxury accommodations at affordable prices, with less crowds and more adventure. Not to mention Travel + Leisure Magazine named the Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort one of the best luxury Costa Rica hotels for families.
Although we often experience rain showers in the late afternoon , we enjoy clear sunny mornings and the much needed clouds in the afternoon, making it ideal to enjoy outdoor adventures when the temps are lower and the tropical sun not quite so intense. Plan to get wet so you can enjoy the best of Costa Rica’s natural waterways.
This time of year, the surging rivers provide exciting white water rafting experiences on the overflowing Savegre River with class II, III and IV rapids and delightful cascading waterfalls. Tubing and River Shrimp are an added bonus of the swollen river beds that you won’t want to miss. Ask a local guide where you can find a riverside restaurant serving these unique crawfish pulled right from the riverbank.
Take advantage of cloud cover to hike one of our National Parks. Nearby Carara National Park is one of Costa Rica’s most popular National Parks, and a favorite with bird watchers for wildlife spotting. The Río Grande de Tárcoles has free flowing sections and its waters seep into seasonal marshlands, drawing a combination of species not found elsewhere. About 150 scarlet macaws nest and feed throughout the reserve and can usually be seen around dusk flying west down the Río Tárcoles towards the coastal mangroves where they roost. Expect 100% humidity under the canopy, and wear water proof boots as mud and flooded areas accompany the September/ October rainfalls.
If your wildlife immersion adventure leaves you wet and muddy, return to your luxury residence, take a bubbling jacuzzi and enjoy a soothing in home massage before you prepare for sunset cocktails and dinner at your choice of Marina Village restaurants. Just another day in paradise at Los Suenos Resort and Marina.
You can also take advantage of savings and offers during low season as vacation rental companies cut their rates and offer discounts to promote those people looking to enjoy a luxury stay at Los Suenos. One of these offers is by HRG Properties and Rentals where they are giving 10% off if you book by October 1st as well as chance to win a free crocodile tour or canopy tour for each guest.
