The prosecution met this morning to ex-vice minister of youth, Karina Bolaños, on the case of the border trail according to a news release from the attorney.
Bolaños was interviewed as a witness for transparency and anti-corruption.
In early September, in an interview with the Spanish magazine Interviu, Karina Bolaños made accusations about alleged corruption in the construction of the 160-kilometer trail that runs parallel to the border with Nicaragua.
According to the prosecution, the interview was conducted in order to gather more evidence to strengthen the case.
Bolaños was removed from her post on July 31 hours after a video circulated on the Internet intimate she recorded to send to a man. According to the Government, the dismissal was because she did not report that a person had denounced the alleged harassment, and that she suffered an extortion. When in actuality it just embarrassed it just shamed a guy in Laura Chinchilla’s party so she immediately let her go.
The Attorney General has said that more than 50 raids and has interviewed more than 40 witnesses over a period of two months for the trail, project cost is more than ¢ 20,000 million.
Additionally, requested the Criminal Court of Hacienda apply the injunction to suspend state payments to 13 construction companies hired by the Conavi for the work, which are being investigated in this court case.
The prosecution went to investigate alleged corruption in the project’s National Roads Authority (Conavi) after the former Minister of Transport, Francisco Jimenez, filed a complaint.
