A landslide caused the closure of Route 32 that goes from San José to Limón on Sunday night. The event happened near kilometers 20 and 21 before the entrance to the tunnel, as confirmed by Traffic Police.
Authorities coordinated the arrival of machinery to clear the blockage and estimated it would start by 6am Monday and take until noon to finish clearing it. They reminded the public that there are three other routes to Limón that remained open.
The Ministry of Public Works and Transportation reported that the road was cleaned and reopened before 1pm. Authorities asked drivers to be patient and calm as traffic started moving slowly.
Landslides are a common problem on this road because of heavy rainfalls. Landslides led to forced closures on May 7 and July 23.
