Costa Rica News – It’s about time to get your vehicles checked again for at least those with the license plates ending in 0,1, or 2.
The technical vehicle review (Riteve) rate went 11 years without a tariff adjustment but this year we are not as lucky. The rate will rise, but not by much.
The increase is a mere ¢993. The current cost is ¢9,930 and it will be increased to ¢10,923 in December of this year. T
his rate applies to vehicles weighing under 3.5 tonnes.
This change was confirmed on Monday afternoon by Carlos Villalta, the Minister of Public Works and Transport, also known as MOPT.
He confirms that additionally there is a new adjustment methodology that would raise the cost again.
As of January 2018, MOPT and the Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep) and Ritreve SyC, the company in charge of the inspections, will have the rate set at ¢13,423.
A request was made to increase it to over ¢30,000 but that is expected to be rejected.
In any case, these increases should be nothing to anyone who has enough money to own a car.
