Costa Rica News – The body of the missing Italian businessman, Stefano Calandrelli, 51, was found in the Sucio river.
He disappeared on May 14 and after the initial investigation it was determined that he had a personal meeting with a woman with the last name Smith. Smith and her roommate Vega are suspected of killing him. They are on six months of preventive detention.
The residents of San Joaquin de Flores are being investigated for the crimes of deprivation of liberty, torture, aggravated robbery and qualified homicide. They must maintain a fixed address and sign in every 15 days while the investigation is in progress.
Authorities believe robbery was the motive for the crime. It appears the man was tortured and stabbed. The property were the suspects lived was raided and tested positive for the presence of blood. Additionally, a bag with some of his clothes was found in the house. On the day of the arrest, one of the suspects threw a bag with bloody cloth near the airport.
Three men may also be involved, as it is believed they and the two women form a criminal group tied to another case that involves a disappearance.
