World News – Rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israel Monday, officials said, marking the second time in recent days that missiles have been fired from the neighboring country.
The Israel Defense Forces said it “immediately responded with artillery fire towards the source of fire.” There were no reports of injuries. On Saturday, the Israeli military said rockets were launched from Lebanon into Israel, an attack that resulted in no injuries.
The Palestinian group Hamas has denied that it played any role in Saturday’s rocket launch, and said a claim of responsibility issued in the name of the Izz el-Deen al-Qassam Brigades — the Hamas armed wing — was false.
The rocket launches come as Israel is engaged in a nearly week-long offensive in Gaza that has killed at least 172 Palestinians.
