Entertainment News – Recently, Coldplay front man Chris Martin dropped some hints as to where the band is going, and it’s a mix of good and bad news.
During a radio interview with the BBC’s Zane Lowe, the singer said that though the group’s last album Ghost Stories was only released seven months ago, they are already hard at work on record number seven. Though there aren’t many details available about the project—who will be producing or when it should be expected—it does appear to have a tentative title: A Head Full Of Dreams.
Also during the chat, Martin discussed the possibility that this may in fact be Coldplay’s last album.
“It’s our seventh thing, and the way we look at it, it’s like the last Harry Potter book or something…” he began. “I have to think of it as the final thing we’re doing. Otherwise we wouldn’t put everything into it.”
The singer’s words were somewhat unclear, and though that sounds like him announcing an ending, it could just be his way of explaining the band’s mindset and how they find their motivation. Martin made things even more confusing when he added:
“Not to say that there might not be another thing one day, but this is the completion of something.”
While Ghost Stories was not their most successful album to date—not by several million copies, actually—it is one of the better performers this year. The record debuted atop the Billboard 200, as in first place in over 100 countries. Since then, it has gone on to sell a bit under a million copies.
Yesterday, iTunes did announce that despite somewhat lackluster sales (in comparison to what they’ve achieved in the past), the album was the third best-selling on the digital storefront, coming in just behind the Frozen soundtrack and Taylor Swift’s massive 1989, which actually sold more in its first week than Coldplay has all year.
Coldplay has become one of the biggest groups on the planet in the past decade or so, charting huge albums and even bigger singles, selling out some of the biggest arenas in the world, and racking up plenty of accolades. To date, the band has sold more than 80 million albums around the world and has won seven Grammys.
The British group are currently up for another three Grammy awards this coming February, including Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their dance-leaning single “A Sky Full of Stars”, and Best Music Film.
