Costa Rica News – Today you may notice a change in the price of gasoline. Their will be a boost of ¢4 per liter of super, ¢8 for regular and ¢10 for diesel. The price increases will change super from ¢677 to¢ 681, regular from ¢655 to ¢663 and diesel from ¢555 to ¢565.
Additionally, Recope is ready for another price adjustment on Friday and explained last month that we should expect extraordinary adjustment every second Friday of the month. These take into account aspects such as prices of hydrocarbons in the international market and the exchange rate of the dollar, factors not controllable by the company.
Each request for adjustment takes some time to negotiate and approve and becomes finalized only after published in La Gaceta. Sometimes prices are lowered in these adjustments.
The change we see today is mostly due to the so-called tariff lag of local prices with respect to costs in the international market. It was approved by the Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep). Recope had requested an increase of ¢11 more for the liter of regular and ¢11 in diesel but Aresep approved a lower amount.
