Costa Rica Travel – Cala Lodge is a wonderful place to stay in Monteverde, in Costa Rica’s central highlands. It’s set back from the main street, offering a quiet retreat in the jungle, but still in walking distance from the town. The hotel gives a mountain cabin feel, with cozy features, ample space, and fabulous views.
It’s also great to know that the staff is bilingual and super friendly and helpful. In addition, they are committed to sustainable practices, to protect the beautiful area they are in. They have won Green awards and participated in community charities.
The lodge is on a 3-acre property full of birds and flowers. The large windows make it so that you can see many animals passing by. There’s also an onsite trail to explore. Some rooms have balconies, as well.
You can choose between standard rooms and suites, which are equipped with bathtubs. All of the rooms are decorated with fresh flowers on the linens. Breakfast is included and there are many restaurants right near by for lunch and dinner. Guests have access to coffee service, parking, WIFI, and safe deposit boxes.
This lodge was founded in 2008 by Francisco and Raquel Castro. Francisco’s family was in Monteverde even before the Quakers arrived. He grew up in the cloud forest and has become a great area tour guide, specializing in bird watching. Raquel was raised in San Jose and has long worked in tourism. She’s made Cala Lodge a special place, focused on nature and customer service. She set up a great night tour of the jungle for me.
The couples’ vision is to provide reasonably priced, high quality accommodations in a secluded area that is accessible to the area’s attractions, like the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and the Children’s Eternal Rainforest. They have an upcoming promotion in November, in which 2 people can stay for 2 nights and enjoy a night tour for $170, including breakfast and taxes.
