Costa Rica News – Vulcanologists are warning us about hot clouds in the Turrialba area and the experts ask us to respect the restriction zones around the volcano for our own safety.
Although we haven’t seen lava eruptions recently, the volcano is still active.
Turrialba is, in fact, more active and unstable than before. It is in no way a tame volcano.
It is both explosive and dangerous. It is currently recording pyroclastic flows- hot clouds composed of gases, solid material and trapped air and rocks.
These clouds move at ground level and advance very rapidly down the slopes. They can reach between 60 and 70 degrees Celsius, affecting the respiratory tract, eyes and skin of people and animals.
The National Commission of Emergencies has established a restriction zone in the area. The last major eruption affected 3 kilometers and the ash traveled as far as 130 kilometers.
Acid rainfall is another risk.
Animals and people are currently living in restricted zones which are very dangerous.
