Costa Rica Travel News – Costa Rica has one of the best environments for ballooning. Imagine low slow drifting over gorgeous rain forests and cute mountain villages. You will pass giant trees and white water rivers. You may see some monkeys chasing each other. There are distinct climates to observe in this country. You will have a rewarding experience and some amazing photos.
Serendipity is the only company offering hot air ballooning in the country. They take off 20 miles east of the Arenal Volcano. You may quickly be above the clouds, looking down at a sea of white. You will next pass by the volcano puffing smoke. You must fly high above it for safety but then you fly low over rivers, fields, and forests to see birds and animals like iguanas.
You get to watch the process of inflating the balloon which takes about 40 minutes. You will then fly for about 1 hour 15 minutes. The fun continues as you try to find a place to land. It must be a place with no trees or rivers and where the 4×4 chase vehicle can reach. You will experience the joy of flying and learning about nature and ballooning for 3-5 hours.
Serendipity maintains their hot air balloons vigorously. The inspectors are trained and in accordance with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. All pilots hold international licenses. The pilot and up to 5 people ride in an open wicker basket. Everyone helps in the launch. The ride is $345 per person and there is a minimum of two passengers.
Children under 5 years, under 4 feet tall, or anyone who cannot climb over the 3 foot high basket and hold on by themselves can not participate. Children between 5 and 10 years old must ride with a staff member to assist them in landings. Transportation to and from nearby hotels is included. It’s recommended that you wear long pants, strong shoes, a hat, and sunglasses. You will get wet but not cold at this altitude.
