Costa Rica News – Henry Raabe is a cyclist who went from professional to paralympic athlete following a serious accident that left him with limited mobility in his right side and a painful neurologic condition.
He has won the Vuelta a Costa Rica twice. In the Vuelta a San Carlos he suffered a sharp fall fracturing his skull.
Though differently now, he still cycles. It even distracts him and lowers his pain a bit, he says. Competing helps his mood. It’s like changing the chip. It gives him a better quality of life too.
He thanks his coach, team and sponsors. He is also very grateful to God. Mountain biking makes him happy and gets him out of thinking about the hardships life has thrown his way.
Thursday he departed for a 210-kilometer mountain biking competition. He no longer fights others for first place rather makes his goal going at the speed his body allows, finishing the race and enjoying it.
