Costa Rica News – We all know how polluted the rivers around the San Jose area of Costa Rica are. But tomorrow is a time to do something about it.
Sunday there will be a series of activities around two urban rivers, the Torres and Maria Aguilar, to encourage their recovery and raise awareness of the pollution.
The events will also show the community how nice a day on the riverbank can be.
There will be a festival at the Torres River, with music, stories, theatre, dance, games and meals. It will go from 10 am to 3 pm on the outskirts where it passes the Children’s Museum.
There will be a parade and a musical guest, Guadalupe Urbina.
A cleanup day will be held at the Maria Aguilar River as will talks on how to recover the basin. For the third year, volunteers will take trash out of the river. Last year, 7 tons were removed.
The cleanup day will start at 8:30 am and go until noon. Volunteers are encouraged to use rubber gloves and boots or shoes that are completely closed and waterproof and wear sunscreen.
