Costa Rica News – The CCSS orders that hospitals, clinics and ebais must respect the gender identity of trans people. This applies to all health services.
The Caja’s health services are obligated to recognize and document the gender identity of transgender men and women and give equal treatment to the LGBTI population.
Discrimination due to sexual orientation is prohibited. Confidentiality and privacy must also be respected. All people have the right to information and the means necessary for their sexual and reproductive health.
Those who belong to LGTBI groups will now be allowed to have their partner accompany them and visit them if hospitalized.
Their partners would be empowered to make decisions in the case the patient has lost their ability to do so.
All allegations of violations against the rights of LGBTI users of services should be reported and investigated. Sanctions should be applied to those who do not comply with the new standards.
