Thousands of motorcyclists took to the streets for Halloween and overtook them to the point of causing a chaos the traffic police were not prepared to handle. What started as hundreds soon became thousands.
Some were dressed in costumes. By 4 p.m., they completely interrupted the traffic on the road connecting Plaza del Sol, in Curridabat, with the Fuente de la Hispanidad, in San Pedro de Montes de Oca.
They also blocked the Road from Plaza del Sol to Zapote. They disregarded red lights and police officers. The director of the Traffic Police was on his way to the stadium when he himself was trapped in the chaos caused by the bikers.
He coordinated with the Public Force, telling them by radio that they were “going crazy on the road.” It is thought to have been a Halloween celebration. Many were driving recklessly, without helmets, and without licenses.
Other vehicles were completely unable to pass the roads and there were simply not enough officers to control the situation. If they stopped one motorcyclist, 50 could come at them, they feared.
