There is an amazing group home for kids in Costa Rica that could use your help. It’s a temporary home for kids in the legal process of figuring out safe guardianship or adoptions. The kids I’ve met there while volunteering are so happy for every single thing. Things as small as a piece of paper to have all to themselves or an empty container to create a collection of leaves in makes them smile. There are, however, some things they could use donated. Shoes, a computer of some sort and a DVD player are top on the list of what they would like. Many other ideas are also listed below.
While they have a ton of support and love, they are missing some things we consider basic in most homes, such as shoes in acceptable condition. They are often wearing the wrong size shoes or ones with giant holes in them. Below I will list the needed sizes for the kids as well as the ladies who live there and take such great care of them.
They could also use some items like a computer, laptop, tablet, DVD or CD player…anything that can help us teach them new skills as they quickly outgrow the games and educational toys we have for them. Any games, books (English or Spanish), art supplies (they especially love saving photos in scrapbooks they make and using coloring books), costumes, etc. would be appreciated as well. They really love the little bit of magic/kinetic sand they have but it seems to disappear so quickly so more of that would be great.
Unopened over-the-counter medicines for common ailments (kids and adults) would be appreciated as it seems at least one person has a cold or a sore throat at any moment.
They have a lot of time in their backyard so they would appreciate outdoor items like a trampoline, sand for the sandbox, a water play station, etc.
The last category of donations they would really love is anything related to trips. With so many kids (8-10 at anytime) it’s nearly impossible to pay for things like transportation to and entrances to amusement parks, tours, activities, time at the beach, etc. They almost never leave the house. When they get to go visit a lake or ride a horse it is something so special. So if you want to donate entrances to a park or tour or let them stay at your rental home in the mountains or at the beach for a night it would be something so out of the ordinary for them.
Regarding sizes of clothes and shoes, any sizes are accepted because if they don’t fit the kids we have now they will fit someone later. Here are the sizes of kids and adults currently in the home:
