Costa Rica News – Christmas in Costa Rica and Christmas in general should be about helping others and giving hope to those around you in whatever way you are able. “Give yourself entirely to those around you. Be generous with your blessings. A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal.” ― Steve Maraboli. These children have enormous wounds that need compassion and love to help heal.
The Costa Rican Times is helping to obtain needed gifts for these children by joining the Asociación Divina Misericordia in an effort to brighten these disabled and in many cases abused children’s Christmas. The program is called “Christmas Smiles”. It is an effort to get needed items for the children in Asociación Divina Misericordia – Costa Rica Orphanage for Disabled Children. Currently, there are 24 children and young adults that are being housed at the Asociación Divina Misericordia Orphanage. They differ, however, from other centers in Costa Rica as they focus on children with disabilities. Most of the children being cared for have cerebral paralysis due to abuse by one or more of their parents. Although I can try to explain to you the hardships that these children go through every day of their lives, I encourage you if you can to visit them and spend time with them.
The Costa Rican Times would like to ask anyone both those visiting Costa Rica as well those living here to try to get just one gift for these children. We have put together a PDF in both English and Spanish of their names, ages, and Christmas list most of which are articles of clothing as their paralysis does not give them the ability to play with toys like other children their age.
