Although we didn’t see colorful flags throughout the city this June 28, International Gay Pride Day, due to covid-19, the would-be participants celebrated virtually. People of all ages came together from the isolation of their homes.
On various digital platforms, activities were carried out and messages were shared. They celebrated love in all its forms and called for the fight for their rights to continue so that everyone can freely be and love who they love without hiding.
Same-sex marriage has been legal in Costa Rica since March. Still, equality is needed in the day-to-day so that sexually diverse people can be in any space without feeling discrimination or fear.
The ultimate goal is equality for all vulnerable groups, such as lgbtiq, people with disabilities, senior citizens, indigenous people, and all other sectors that are often forgotten or face social, cultural, or economic barriers.
