Costa Rica Travel – Costa Rica is working towards a gastronomic brand that will appeal to international tourists. This is something that has been done and managed to bring in “gastronomic tourists” in other countries, such as Peru and Mexico.
The ICT and entrepreneurs are working toward the goal. There is a strategic plan called Competitiveness of the Destination that describes a component of traditional gastronomy presented in an innovative way.
Local cuisine can become a travel experience. There are so many traditional foods in each region of the country. The ICT has trained 1,124 chefs in cuisine courses by region. The Presidente Hotel is one example of a business offering tourists a trip in cuisine by offering specialty cocktails created with seasonal national fruits.
With some planned initiatives, the ICT plans to develop a Gastronomic Route within the next three to five years. It will link touristic businesses in the North Caribbean, South Caribbean, North and South of Guanacaste, South Pacific, Central Pacific, Northern Plains, Puntarenas, Monteverde and the Central Valley emphasizing the typical gastronomy and the history behind each region’s dishes.
