Covid caused airport closures in March 2020. Costa Rica has since recovered 90% of the weekly flights it had before the pandemic related closure.
After the borders were reopened, four airlines decided to stop flying to the country but three others started operations to the country.
In 2019 and the first quarter of 2020, there were 498 weekly flights to Costa Rica. By November 2022, there were 442, representing a recovery of 88.71%. 15 airlines increased the frequency of their flights, 12 reduced it, and six kept it the same as in 2019 and the first quarter of 2020.
There are 29 companies currently flying to Costa Rica, although five of them don’t fly during the low tourist season.
Avianca is the airline that offers the greatest number of weekly flights to Costa Rica, 68. These flights connect Costa Rica to El Salvador, the U.S., Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia.
The country offering the greatest number of flights to the country is the U.S., followed by Mexico and Canada.
