The Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnologia (Ministry of Science and Technology) launched the Centro Comunitario Inteligente or CECI back in August of 2007, at San Rafael de Heredia. Now, almost 5 years later, the resources made available to the community is being effectively utilized, and has received due recognition.
The MICIT has praised the community for the effective use of the resources they have given them, and has awarded the community center with 6 new computers to replace the old ones.
The program aims keep citizens competitive and up to date with the latest trends by educating members of the community with basic computer literacy such as using Microsoft Office, effective internet surfing, and proper online decorum.
Over the years, the CECI inSan Rafaelhas been home to about 50 computer literacy courses to benefit the community. The 25 students currently making use of the program range from 13 to 18 years of age.
With the success of the pilot program inSan Rafael, the MICIT aims to useSan Rafaelas a model and launch CECI in other communities. The event organized to commend theSan Rafael community was attended by Jorge Isaac Herrera, Mayor of San Rafael, and MICIT vice minister Keilor Rojas.
