The Festival of Light took over San Jose yesterday. There wasn’t a free space in the entire 3.4 km route of the parade. Families picnicked on the sidewalks. Fried chicken and pejibayes were passed around.
People stood on chairs and climbed fences to see above the crowds. One person sat in an armchair from home and it was confiscated. Salesmen from every store were outside making last minute deals. Even the bars emptied as everyone wanted to see what all the commotion was about.
Among the impressive floats was the Children’s Museum one which took first place. It transported onlookers to a world of fantasy and smiles. The one from the Costa Rican Tourism Institute paid tribute to the ocean. The Autonomous University of Central America put forth a pro-life float.
10 marching bands had the public dancing. The best was the Cafe Tarrazú band.
There were enough fireworks to light the whole city. The colorful reflection bounced off the faces of thousands of guests.
