Costa Rica News – In 2010 there were only three brands of beer registered in Costa Rica but this year alone 37 new products have been given permission to be on the market.
78 brands have registered with the Ministry of Health in the last five years.
This explosion in beer options is do to the increasing number of microbreweries popping up countrywide. They are testing and proving that Costa Ricans enjoy countless types of beer.
There are 15 microbreweries and there are even more craftsmen making and selling their own drinks in brewpubs, which do not need the same permissions as a company such as Florida Bebidas which is selling in supermarkets. Including those drinks, the options are nearly limitless.
Everything from sweet to bitter, dark or light, or even frothy are available in today’s Tico market.
Costa Rica’s gourmet beer market is growing fast but still in its infancy. We can expect even more variety of flavor in the next few years.
