Costa Rica News – Is this just a sacrificial lamb or is it one instance with one ex-agent only time will tell? I think if you did an audit of any government you would find inconsistencies in the accounting. How many of us would like to see an audit on the “Border Trail” between Costa Rica and Nicaragua?
The Public Ministry is currently investigating an ex-agent of the National Institute of Housing and Urban Development (INVU). He is accused of embezzling money from INVU clients.
This man, named Fallas, apparently charged clients their INVU fees for the System of Savings and Loans, but failed to transfer that money to the public entity. The sum of money missing is ¢7 million.
On September 22, his office was raided. He was then dismissed from his job. Prosecutors requested that he be held in jail, but the judge denied that request. It appears that no other agents were involved in the fraud.
The spokespeople for INVU assure their clients that they are aware of their responsibility to them and that all money will be refunded. They encourage everyone affected to remain calm, stating that this is an isolated case.
