Costa Rica News – I am guessing those open heart surgeries and other important operations will need to be rescheduled in Costa Rica. Let’s also hope for no emergency situations.
14,000 workers from the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) are going to strike on Monday August 8th, following the threat of mass layoffs from the company.
They will suspend work from all agencies and branches.
To be responsible, they will attend to serious damage to hospitals and emergency response sites.
The protest will be in the form of a march departing from the ICE office in La Sabana at 10:30 am and going towards the Presidential House.
Since 2011, 2,554 workers have been laid off and many more are at risk of the same. The company promotes layoffs and voluntary severance so as to hire externally.
The chief executive of ICE does not believe there is reason for a strike. He explained that it is normal to ensure the efficiency of the various jobs and the quality of the workers. Some parts of the organization are overstaffed with little workload while others are in desperate need of employees.
