Did you wake up from your bed shaking yesterday morning? There was a very strong tremor that shook residents of Costa Rica, although the earthquake occurred off the southern coast of Panama.
The initial event occurred at 5:57 a.m. yesterday, Thursday, October 20. The epicenter was 72 kilometers west of Coiba Island, Panama, and 62 kilometers south of Boca Chica, a coastal village. Its effects were felt in Panama City and in the southern zone and metropolitan area of Costa Rica.
The Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica recorded a magnitude of 6.9 degrees and a depth of 28 kilometers, 118 kilometers south of David, Panama. Fortunately, there were no reports of damages or casualties.
After the earthquake, there were 13 aftershocks recorded, between 3.7 and 4.7 degrees. They happened between 6:17 a.m. and 9:57 a.m.
