A doctor suspected of murdering his wife after she asked for a divorce is behind bars but his lawyers are asking the judge to release him. He’s been in preventive prison since September and is scheduled to stay there until March, with the possibility to extend this as the investigation continues.
María del Carmen Tacsan Ulate was trying to get out of an abusive relationship, according to her family members. It is suspected that her husband killed her and then tried to make it look like a suicide.
An autopsy revealed that it was a murder, not a suicide. Although the man said he came home to find her like that, the investigation revealed that he was actually home at the time of the crime.
The suspect was arrested, on September 26, at his home, for the crime of femicide and he has been imprisoned ever since, as dictated by the Heredia Criminal Court. There will be a hearing on Thursday.
