Costa Rica Dental Tourism – Christmas has come and gone so I am curious what present you got for yourself; did you buy a new tablet, a new mobile phone or a LED TV maybe? How about pretty clothes and flashy accessories? I am sure you got something good for yourself. But how about your missing teeth, have you thought about getting them replaced?
I am sure you are worried about the costs involved in getting your teeth fixed or replaced especially now that dental care was not given much consideration when Obamacare was passed as law. Imagine getting dental implants in the United States for $4000 to $6000 a piece excluding professional fees, anesthetic and so on and so forth, which you have to pay for with money out of your own pocket! I know it is a scary thought but we both know that you need to get your missing teeth replaced that way you can start smiling in public with confidence again and enjoy eating your food once more.
I have a way out for you; all you have to do is get out of your comfort zone, get on a plane to get your teeth fixed outside of your home town or country and take advantage of the booming dental tourism industry in Latin American countries like Panama, Costa Rica and Mexico. The most obvious advantage of going abroad for dental reasons is the cost involved in getting replacement teeth. If you go to the three countries mentioned above the cost you have to take care of for dental procedures is around thirty to forty per cent compared to the cost you have to shoulder if you undergo the same dental procedure in the US; even after factoring in the amount for airfare, hotel accommodations and the actual procedure you would still be able to save more money.
Now just like other major decisions or happenings in your life, going abroad for dental reasons also require that you map out a plan to make your trip smooth, hassle-free and worthwhile which is done by finding the right dentist that would take care of your dental needs, know the procedures you need to undergo and what to do in case a dental emergency arises.
How do you find the right dentist? To find the best dentist for your, the first step is to search online. Doing a quick search on Yahoo or Google will give us numerous dentistry sites and dental tourism boards which can give you a general information or idea about the type and level of service you can get. If you are not that comfortable basing you decision on online reviews you can always ask your relatives, friends or people you know who may have gone abroad for dental reasons.
Once you have made your decision on who to go to for your dental needs, the next thing you should do is contact that dentist by phone or by e-mail to get information on what is involved with the procedure you will undergo including the crowns and implants that will be used and materials that will be used to fabricate the prosthetics that will be placed inside your mouth. You should also inquire about the costs involved with the procedure you will undergo and make sure that you will be quoted the total amount for everything including the doctor’s fee, anesthetics to be used, fee for the actual procedure and devices that will be placed inside your mouth.
The only drawback if you go abroad for dental reason is that in case an emergency arises when you have already flown home, you cannot go back to the same dentist who handled your treatment since it would be too costly to fly outside of the US. To avoid any possible problem, make sure that before leaving your home town, get in touch with a local dentist who would be willing to take care of you when you get back from your dental trip abroad.
Most importantly, you should always request for a copy of dental records from the dentist who took care of your dental needs containing information on the actual procedure done and the materials used so that the dentist who would take over your dental care would be well informed.
