Costa Rica News – The first time I saw Dairy Queen in Costa Rica, I was already running late, but I had to stop. It had been years since seeing one, so I let myself miss the bus. They were giving away free promotional ice cream cake. It was a giant piece of oreo chocolate ice cream cake. I would rate it an 11 out of 10.
I continued my daily life, forgetting that Dairy Queen opened it’s first store in Multiplaza Escazu, as I live far from there. To my surprise, they opened up a second location. This one is in the center of everything and close to every bus in San Jose. It’s on Street 0, only 50 meters from Universal. At this one, I tried the Chips Ahoy ice cream sandwich.
Both locations offer the signature soft-serve ice cream menu. The one in Escazu also features cakes, grilled sandwiches, hot dogs, and nachos.
These two stores mark the brand’s 21st country. John Gainor, the CEO, said, “The international marketplace continues to be a huge opportunity to grow the Dairy Queen brand. We first expanded beyond the U.S. 60 years ago, and now through our partnership with Grill and Treats of Costa Rica, we are thrilled to offer the residents and tourists of Costa Rica the same exceptional Dairy Queen experience that our fans around the world enjoy.”
The next part of the expansion will be to open a DQ Grill & Chill restaurant in Costa Rica in 2014.
