A 57-year-old man was arrested from his home in Lagunilla de Heredia, Tuesday after he allegedly created fake profiles on social media to offend his former boss after being dismissed from the company.
The case was opened on August 14 when a businessman went to the OIJ and reported that a stranger was using fake profiles to spread offensive posts. At the suspect’s home, three computers and a cellphone were seized.
The crime of impersonation is punishable by one to three years in prison. It is considered a cybercrime in this case and this crime has been part of the Penal Code since 2013.
The suspect was taken to the Deputy Prosecutor’s Office where his statement was taken and it was determined that he is not a flight risk since he has roots here, such as work, home, and family so he was released for the remainder of the criminal process.
