Costa Rica News – The Judicial Investigation Agency detained the suspect who allegedly raped and robbed a 19-year-old Canadian tourist. He was captured in a raid carried out in a house in Hatillo 8.
He was taken into custody to be investigated in the Courts of Pococí. He has a judicial record, having been previously linked to the crimes of aggravated robbery and theft.
The crime occurred on July 22, when the woman was about to board a bus to Puerto Viejo in Limón. The man offered to drive her. They made several stops in Guapiles including taking money out from an ATM.
He raped her and stole the money. The victim was advised to go to the OIJ and did so last week. The man was identified in security videos of businesses and the ATM.
This is the third recent case of crimes against tourists. The suspects in the cases of the murder of Arancha Gutiérrez López and Maria Trinidad Mathus are in pretrial and preventive detention.
