Costa Rica Surfing – Costa Rica passed up the opportunity to organize the 2015 World Surfing competition due to lack of funds.
The tournament was held in Costa Rica in 2009 with incredible success.
The president of the International Surfing Association, Randall Chaves, met with the Sports Minister, Mauri Carolina, to invite the country to be host to 100,000 fans for seven days once again.
It wasn’t possible to agree on the funding for the tournament so it will have to be held elsewhere, as the ISA requires $800,000 for the tournament, and only a low percentage is covered by sponsors.
The event generated considerable income in the Jaco area in 2009.
Those who came for the competition brought in $1.5 million during the event dates, a figure nearly twice that requested by the organization.
Why would the Costa Rican government put money into something that works? As we all know common sense is lacking in the ranks.
