During the week of Christmas, the number of cases increased by 121 percent. The figure jumped from 572 to 1,267. There were an average of 181 confirmed cases per day.
While hospitalizations for Covid-19 have decreased, deaths related to the virus have increased. If we compare the past two weeks, December 12-18 and 19-25, the death toll increased from seven to eleven and the number of hospitalizations decreased by 20%, from 156 to 124.
Over half of the Covid-19 related deaths in Costa Rica during Christmas week, 54.5%, corresponded to people over 65 years old. 27.3% corresponded to the 18 to 49 age group, and 18.2% to the 50 to 64 age group.
On the 28th of December, there were 421 positive cases registered, along with one death. 121 were hospitalized, including 45 in the intensive care unit. Of those hospitalized, four were in private centers and 117 were in the public system.
There have been 7,353 deaths from Covid-19 in Costa Rica since the start of the pandemic.
