Ian Martínez represents Costa Rica at the University of Utah. His basketball skills were first noticed at the JSerra school in California. He will now play in Division 1 of the NCAA, the prelude to pro ball in the NBA.
He’s been interviewed by the media in the US. They often ask about his goals and his idols, in addition to how he got into football in a country all about soccer. He also likes soccer but his dream is to play in the NBA.
Ian was planning to debut this week, at the start of the NCAA championship, but this was delayed because of the covid-19 pandemic. The first two games are postponed so he now plans to start on December 3, when Utah plays the University of Washington.
His father, basketball player Henry Martínez, is a technical assistant at the University of Utah and always advises his son. He tells him to enjoy the moment and meet his goals step by step.
