Costa Rica’s National Team is back in Tico territory after its time at the World Cup. It closed out its time in Qatar late Saturday night.
The team’s performance had its ups and downs. It conceded more goals than in previous world cups yet left a good image and came close to qualifying for the next round.
It came in 27th place out of 32 teams. In 2014, it was in 8th place and in 2018, it was in 29th.
The coach gave the younger generation play time. Eight players aged 25 or younger got to participate. Experiencing being in a World Cup so young was a great accomplishment.
While it came in last place in Group E, Costa Rica beat Japan, the team that finished as the leader of Group E.
Costa Rica showed great strength and competitiveness in the face of adversity, playing against really strong teams and even claiming a win.
The coach was hired for four more years prior to the World Cup, something that’s not happened before and will give him a great advantage.
