Costa Rica News – Costa Rica is taking another step towards Carbon Neutrality, by looking into reforms to two core institutions for the country, the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) and the Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery (Recope).
This was announced at the Congress of Sustainability, Ecology and Evolution on Thursday.
A national decarbonization plan will be presented on December 1, to coincide with the day we celebrate the abolition of the Army. Abolishing the army was a transcendental decision of our grandparents and decarbonization is a great decision of our generation.
The presenter spoke about how in 10 years we will produce the energy we consume and ICE will simply transmit it. What a difference this will make in the environment and our wallets.
Oil is not part of future generations, so opening the market wouldn’t make sense. Rather we must rethink the business of Recope, keeping in mind our environmental debt and responsibilities.
