Costa Rica News – Unesco declared on Wednesday the Savegre a Biosphere Reserve.
This area is home to 20% of the lora, 54% of the mammals and 59% of the birds in the country, so the State must ensure it is maintained well.
This river is one of the cleanest in Central America and we hope it will stay that way. The area declared a Biosphere Reserve specifically is the watershed located where the Savegre connects with the Central Pacific.
This title was given by the International Coordinating Council of the Unesco Program on Man and the Biosphere, which meets in Paris.
A biosphere reserve is a place of learning for sustainable development.
One of the goals is reconciling conservation of biodiversity with the proper use of natural resources.
The program is careful to respect the cultural identity of neighboring peoples.
