Costa Rica News – The San Juan de Dios Hospital has made numerous improvements to its nutrition area.
This was required by a sanitary order from the Ministry of Health that dates back to November. The deterioration and unfit conditions had previously led to an employee strike.
The kitchen walls and ceiling have been painted. The pipes were fixed. A steam system, new mixer for special diets, and appropriate cooking pot were purchased. The oven and food elevator were also improved.
Carts to deliver the food haven’t yet been bought as they are being specifically designed to adapt to the hospital’s needs. The ideal situation would be to serve the food in each room so it doesn’t get cold or contaminated.
There is also outstanding work to be done on the roof repair, which will be done next week.
A complete renovation of the nutrition clinic is expected to be ready in 2017 and cost a total of ¢2,400 million.
