Costa Rica News – Like each year after the San Jose license plate restriction has been implemented, during the Christmas holidays it is lifted for about 2 weeks.
This temporary lift allows people to go to San Jose and do what they need to do during the holidays. With many taking vacations to the beach or relaxing at home traffic does not get as bad as during the normal work week.
The Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT) announced that plate restriction will be lifted from December 22 to Friday, January 3rd. The license plate restriction does not apply to weekends so it will be back in effect Monday, January 5th.
With schools being out for the holidays there is less traffic.
Also in order to get to some of the Christmas holiday festivities like the Zapote festivals and other events being allowed to drive to or through San Jose is important.
The vehicular restriction is normally Monday to Friday from 6 am to 7 pm and limits the traffic to downtown San Jose.
The restriction is based on the last number of your license plate as follows:
1 or 2 have Monday restricted
3 or 4 have Tuesday restricted
5 or 6 have Wednesdays restricted
7 or 8 have Thursdays restricted
9 or 0 have Fridays restricted
