The area is best known for its quetzals. People come from far away to witness them. A study showed that 15.4% of visitors questioned in the Juan Santamaría Airport by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute had participated in bird watching during their stay.
The Hotel Savegre reports the profile of the average visitor to be between 65 and 85 years old. This hotel has a biodigestor of sewage, a wetland to purify soapy water and solar panels to generate part of the energy required by the restaurant.
